It’s a French/Latin verb often used in more scholarly contexts. I only know this because I once read it on the “Volokh Conspiracy” and thought it had to be a typo. That’s when I learned that typos on the Volokh Conspiracy are as rare as tits on a monkey’s ass – if a writer uses it there . . . then you can bet it’s a legit word – scholarly elitism aside.
